Opening My Cage

lyrics

Once an old dead wasted land
It called to me, it reached for my hand
Promised wonder and adventure
To any one who'd show it their dreams

Now I've left that wasted land
A symbol of my loneliness
I can't shake its pull on my mind
It beckons me to leave you behind

Now I know my sense of us
Was mirrors then, was devoid of trust
Society was all other
Community a conformist lie

Endless longing
Self-imposed isolation
Bitter, frightened
A cult of the hero

Compassion, weakness
What a fool I have been
The love I wanted
A thing to get, to take

She held out her hand
Just like the old waste land
Some thing for me, to become mine

Now I understand
All that the gods had planned
Yet it was their children who knew

Play, work, achieve together
Alienation, be gone
No gods, no masters

Why trade when one can provide
Why hide far away from society
No gods, no masters

In that old, dead, wasted land
Our skills beget
Notions of power

Scarcity, it all disappeared
But traditions
They filled up its place

The ruins, the artifacts
Core values that
Were arbitrary

Property, divinity, lies
Hierarchy from
Good will's demise

Overcorrection, blank slate
Nihilism
And solipsism

Overcorrection,
An individualism
New disconnection

Earth was worse, I trusted them
Those archists that
Topped me with a crown

Tyranny of majority
It had tricked us
In to inaction

Old gods' ethics
Demand trial by neglect
None are islands
But they sure had us fooled

Harpistiktu saw
They felt compassion for all
But were silenced
We faced worst violence

Amendment we made
But too little too late
Even those who prayed refused aid

Now they understand
But blood is on our hands
Victory, again, bittersweet

Play, work, achieve together
Alienation, be gone
No gods, no masters

Why trade when one can provide
Why hide far away from society
No gods, no masters

about

Shyft Denver, Colorado

This is Shyft’s gabber/hardcore/breakcore/drill’n’bass project. Distorted heavy bass kicks, thick synths, and powerful melodies are the aim here- unless it’s chopped up progressive percussion. Influences come from many places, and not just the gabber or brain dance scene. It ranges from techno, trance and house genre classes to organic genre classes such as folk and metal. ... more
